From Cluses, a short stretch on the A40 leads to the Sallanches-Passy exit, where you join the Route Blanche N205 climbing the upper Arve valley. The road passes through Sallanches with its grand Mont-Blanc backdrop, then Passy stretching from the valley floor to the Plateau d'Assy. After the glacial lock at Servoz above the impressive Diosaz gorges, you reach Les Houches, the first village of the Chamonix valley. The entry into Chamonix is spectacular: the Aiguille du Midi rises to 3,842 m before you while Mont-Blanc dominates the horizon at 4,808 m. The driver drops you in central Chamonix, at the Aiguille du Midi base, your hotel or directly at the ski lifts of your choice.
