The taxi journey from Chamonix to Lyon connects two radically different but complementary worlds: the majestic alpine high mountains on one side and the ancient metropolis at the confluence of the Rhône and Saône rivers on the other. Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, the iconic French Alps resort and birthplace of modern mountaineering, is the starting point of this 220-kilometre crossing from the eternal snows of Mont-Blanc to the green Beaujolais hills. Lyon, a UNESCO World Heritage city, is a gastronomic and cultural destination par excellence with its Old Town traboules, Fourvière basilica, Paul Bocuse Food Hall and countless bouchons lyonnais. This transfer is especially popular with international travellers connecting via Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport to the Mont-Blanc ski resorts.
Route
Route Chamonix → Lyon
The journey begins with the descent of the Arve valley via the RN205, passing Les Houches and Servoz with the Mont-Blanc massif unfolding majestically behind you. At Sallanches, you join the A40 Autoroute Blanche through Cluses, Bonneville and Annemasse. The motorway then skirts south of Lake Geneva before turning south-west through the rolling Bugey and Ain landscapes. After Ambérieu-en-Bugey, the A43 junction leads directly to greater Lyon. You enter the city from the east and the driver drops you at your chosen address: Presqu'île, Vieux-Lyon, Part-Dieu, Confluence or anywhere else.
