Taxi Lorient → Vannes

The Lorient to Vannes journey links two jewels of the Morbihan department, a Breton area bathed by the Atlantic Ocean and home to the Gulf of Morbihan, one of the most beautiful bays in the world. Lorient, the city of five ports born from the East India Company in the 17th century, is an exceptional maritime city. Its harbour, one of the largest on the French Atlantic coast, hosts the Keroman fishing port — France's second largest by tonnage — and the submarine base, now transformed into a cultural hub with the Cite de la Voile Eric Tabarly. Each summer, the Interceltic Festival attracts over 800,000 visitors to celebrate Celtic music and dance. The Ile de Groix, a 45-minute ferry ride from the Quai de Rohan, is a small paradise of white sand beaches and wild cliffs. Vannes, at the other end of this short 60-kilometre journey, offers a completely different character: a perfectly preserved medieval walled city with flower-bedecked ramparts, colourful half-timbered houses on Place Henri-IV and the washhouses of the Saint-Patern quarter. The Vannes marina opens directly onto the Gulf of Morbihan, an inland sea of 115 km2 dotted with forty-two islands — a unique European ecosystem classified as a regional nature park.
