Lognes is a commune of 15,000 residents positioned at the heart of Marne-la-Vallee, hosting the southern section of the Cite Descartes, France's premier cluster for higher education and research in sustainable development and urban planning. The campus is home to ESIEE Paris, a highly regarded engineering school specialising in electronics, computer science and embedded systems; the IGN (Institut Geographique National), France's national mapping and geographic information agency; and a constellation of advanced research laboratories working on smart cities, materials science and environmental engineering. Along the Boulevard du Mandinet, a dynamic business zone provides office space, retail and dining options for the campus community and local residents alike. The Lognes RER A station is a major stop on the line connecting Marne-la-Vallee to central Paris, reaching Chatelet-Les Halles in approximately 30 minutes. However, the taxi remains the natural complement to the RER for urgent business trips where time is critical, for journeys carrying technical equipment or research instruments, and for late-night returns after the last RER train has departed.
