Le Mont-Dore is a dual resort: both a historic Massif Central ski station and a renowned thermal spa since Gallo-Roman times, nestled at 1,050 metres altitude at the foot of the Puy de Sancy (1,886 m), the highest point in the entire French Massif Central. Clermont-Ferrand Auvergne Airport (CFE) is the ideal air gateway to reach Le Mont-Dore: in a 55-minute taxi transfer, you go from the air terminal to the heart of the resort, whether for a ski holiday, thermal cure or summer hiking break. The Mont-Dore – Sancy ski domain offers 31 runs over 41 km, served by 14 ski lifts, with often excellent snow coverage thanks to the altitude and north-facing exposure. The resort is particularly popular with families and intermediate skiers for the variety of its runs, from gentle green plateau runs to technical black runs in the Val de Courre. The Sancy cable car goes directly to the summit of the Puy de Sancy, offering 360° views over the Auvergne volcanoes, Cantal mountains and, on clear days, the Alps. The Mont-Dore thermal baths, whose origins date back to the Roman occupation, are among France's oldest. The current establishment, built in the 19th century in spectacular neo-Byzantine style with mosaics, columns and painted vaults, offers 18-day conventional cures specialising in respiratory conditions (asthma, chronic bronchitis) and rheumatology. The thermal springs emerge at 44°C, rich in silica, bicarbonates and arsenic at therapeutic concentrations. The airport taxi transfer is particularly suited to skiers arriving with bulky equipment: skis, snowboards, boots, luggage... Our vehicles have spacious boots and roof racks on request. In winter, road equipment is crucial: access roads to Le Mont-Dore pass through cols above 1,000 metres that can be snowy or icy. Our drivers, accustomed to these conditions, drive vehicles systematically equipped with approved snow tyres and carry chains when needed. They know alternative routes if a road is closed and can provide real-time updates on resort snow conditions.

Route

Route Aéroport Clermont-Ferrand → Le Mont-Dore

Your driver collects you at the single terminal of Clermont-Ferrand Auvergne Airport with a name board. The route first takes a short stretch of the A71 to bypass Clermont to the south, then branches onto the D2089, the main road to the Sancy. The road passes successively through Royat, Saint-Genès-Champanelle and the volcanic plateau with spectacular views of the Chaîne des Puys. After Rochefort-Montagne, a mountain market town with its Romanesque church, the road plunges into the upper Dordogne valley. The descent to Le Mont-Dore is a highlight: the Sancy massif gradually reveals itself with its jagged ridges, glacial cirques and, in winter, its snow cover heralding the slopes. Arrival is via the north of the resort, passing the first chalets and hotels. Tolls approximately €2 (included in the fare). Allow 55 min under normal conditions, up to 1h10 in winter depending on snow.
