The Mont-Dore thermal baths, in a magnificent 19th-century neo-Byzantine building, are renowned for respiratory conditions thanks to their volcanic hot springs (44°C). The ski station offers 31 pistes between 1,200 and 1,886 m, with a cable car to the Puy de Sancy summit for exceptional panoramas. The Puy de Sancy is also an iconic hiking summit, reached by 800 steps from the cable car top. The Dordogne River has its source here. Le Mont-Dore is a concentrate of authentic Auvergne: cheeses (saint-nectaire, cantal), gentian, volcanoes and mountain art de vivre.
