Le Cannet is a residential and artistic town perched on the hills overlooking Cannes, offering exceptional panoramic views of the Bay of Cannes, the Lérins Islands and the Esterel massif. While Le Cannet lives in the media shadow of its Cannois neighbour, the town possesses a strong identity of its own, shaped by its intimate connection with the painter Pierre Bonnard, who spent the last twenty years of his life here (1927-1947) in his villa Le Bosquet, finding in Le Cannet's Provençal light the inspiration for some of his most luminous masterpieces. The Bonnard Museum, inaugurated in 2011 in a fine 19th-century mansion, is the only museum in the world entirely dedicated to the artist, presenting a permanent collection and high-quality temporary exhibitions. The Old Cannet, the historic quarter on the heights, is enchanting: its cobbled lanes bordered by golden stone walls, flower-decked stairways, the 14th-century Danys Tower and shaded squares with ancient olive trees create a postcard-perfect Provençal setting. The Chapel of Saint-Sauveur, adorned with murals by Tobiasse, merits a visit. The Boulevard Carnot, the main artery linking Le Cannet to Cannes, is lined with shops and restaurants. Le Cannet offers a calmer, greener lifestyle than Cannes while being just 10 minutes from the Palais des Festivals and the Croisette.
Route
Route Nice → Le Cannet
From Nice, take the A8 motorway towards Cannes/Aix-en-Provence. After 25 km, take exit 42 (Mougins / Le Cannet). Follow signs to Le Cannet centre via Boulevard Carnot or the Mougins road depending on your destination in the town. The motorway journey is smooth outside peak hours. Tolls are modest (about €2). The alternative via the N7 (coastal dual carriageway) is longer but offers coastal views. The taxi drops you at your exact address, whether at the Old Cannet on the heights, the Bonnard Museum or in the residential neighbourhoods.

Specific tips for the Nice → Le Cannet route
The Bonnard Museum is Le Cannet's major cultural attraction: allow 1h30 for a visit. The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday (10am-6pm in summer, 10am-5pm in winter). The Old Cannet can be explored on foot in 1-2 hours: follow the painted-walls trail featuring reproductions of Bonnard's works along the lanes. The Danys Tower offers a spectacular view of Cannes and the sea. For lunch, Old Cannet restaurants are more affordable and less touristy than those in Cannes, with authentic Provençal cuisine. Le Cannet is also an excellent starting point for visiting Mougins (5 minutes by taxi, a gastronomic village) and Grasse (15 minutes, perfume capital). The Le Cannet Art Festival in summer brings the old village streets alive with exhibitions and performances. From Le Cannet, Cannes centre and the Croisette are 10 minutes by taxi.
