A taxi between Nice and Èze Village costs between €25 and €30 when booked in advance at a fixed price, over a road distance of about 12 kilometres and a journey time of from 20 to 35 minutes depending on traffic. The usual route takes the middle corniche road (D6007), with no tolls. A van for up to seven passengers starts at €40. That price includes luggage, tolls and the driver's approach, and it does not move if traffic builds up: that is the difference with a metered ride, where every minute of waiting is charged and the applicable rate depends on the hour. On an unbooked ride, the amount follows the scale of the prefectoral order applying where the passenger is picked up, higher from seven in the evening to ten in the morning as well as on Sundays and public holidays. The driver tracks the flight or train number given at booking and shifts the pick-up at no extra cost if it is delayed, and cancelling remains free up to six hours before departure.

Èze is arguably the most famous and most spectacular perched village on the French Riviera. Clinging to a rocky peak 429 metres above the sea, this fortified medieval village offers dizzying panoramic views over the Mediterranean, from Cap Ferrat to the Italian coast on clear days. Its narrow, winding cobbled alleys house artisan workshops, art galleries and Provençal product shops. At the summit, the Èze Exotic Garden, laid out among the ruins of the medieval castle, features an exceptional collection of cacti and succulents with a 360-degree panoramic view considered one of the finest on the Riviera. The Fragonard perfumery has a factory-museum at Èze-bord-de-mer, at the foot of the cliff. Friedrich Nietzsche composed part of Thus Spoke Zarathustra during a stay in Èze, and the path connecting the seafront to the village bears his name. The village also boasts two Michelin-starred restaurants, including the Château de la Chèvre d'Or, which add to Èze's gastronomic reputation.

Route

Route Nice → Èze Village

The most direct and spectacular route takes the Middle Corniche (D6007) from Nice. Head towards Corniche André de Joly which climbs in hairpin bends from Nice port, offering sweeping views over the Baie des Anges. After crossing the Col de Villefranche, the road winds along the cliffsides with the sea below. Èze Village suddenly appears on your right, recognisable by its rocky peak topped by castle ruins. Parking is below the village (Parking de la Corniche). The alternative via the A8 motorway is slightly faster but less spectacular: exit 57 La Turbie, then D2564 towards Èze. Via the Grande Corniche (D2564), the view from the Col d'Èze is extraordinary, looking down over Monaco and Cap Ferrat. The driver drops you at the nearest car park to the pedestrian village entrance.

Tips & best practices

Specific tips for the Nice → Èze Village route

Èze village is entirely pedestrianised and the alleys are steeply sloped: wear comfortable shoes. The Exotic Garden at the top costs €6 entry and is well worth the climb. Arrive early in the morning (before 10am) or late afternoon to avoid crowds, especially in summer and on cruise ship days in Villefranche. In summer, the heat can be intense in the shadeless alleys: bring water and a hat. For the full experience, combine Èze Village with Èze-bord-de-mer (Fragonard factory) by walking down the Nietzsche Path (45 minutes steep descent). The driver can collect you at the bottom. The gourmet restaurants in the village (Château de la Chèvre d'Or, Château Eza) require booking several weeks in advance in high season.
