Isola 2000 is the closest ski resort to Nice and the French Riviera, offering the unique possibility of going from the beach to the slopes in under two hours. Located at 2,000 metres altitude in the Mercantour massif, on the Italian border, this family-friendly resort has 120 kilometres of runs spread between 1,800 and 2,610 metres. The ski area, with a north-west exposure, enjoys good snow cover from December to April, supplemented by snow cannons. Isola 2000 is particularly popular with Nice-based skiers and Riviera tourists who want to experience winter sports without long journeys. In summer, the resort transforms into a hiking base in the heart of the Mercantour National Park, with trails leading to mountain lakes (Lac de Terre Rouge, Lac de Vens) and spectacular alpine landscapes populated by marmots, chamois and ibex. The journey from Nice is an adventure in itself: the road climbs the Tinée valley, one of the wildest in the Alpes-Maritimes, passing through spectacular gorges and perched villages before reaching the high mountains.

Route Nice → Isola 2000
From Nice, take the M6202 (Digne road) northward up the Var valley. After about 25 km, at Plan-du-Var, turn onto the D2205 which climbs the Tinée valley. The road winds through the Tinée gorges, narrow passages carved through rock, then passes through the villages of La Tour-sur-Tinée, Clans and Saint-Sauveur-sur-Tinée. At Isola village (900 m altitude), take the D97 which climbs in 17 spectacular hairpin bends to the Isola 2000 resort at 2,000 metres. This final 16 km section with its switchbacks is the most impressive part of the journey. In winter, the road is regularly cleared but winter equipment (chains or snow tyres) is mandatory. Our drivers are equipped and experienced in winter mountain driving. There are no tolls on the entire route.

In winter, check road conditions before departure (road info: 04 93 04 01 01). The D97 between Isola village and Isola 2000 can be temporarily closed during heavy snowfall.
