Taxi Nice — Digne-les-Bains

Digne-les-Bains, prefecture of the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, is a spa town nestled in a sunny valley at the confluence of three rivers. The lavender capital, it hosts the spectacular Corso de la Lavande every August, a floral parade of floats decorated with lavender. The town is also the terminus of the famous Train des Pignes, a historic railway linking Nice to Digne through 150 km of grand Alpine scenery, crossing bridges, tunnels and viaducts built in the early 20th century. The Haute-Provence Geological Nature Reserve, Europe's largest, surrounds the town and harbours giant ammonite fossils and dinosaur footprint slabs 300 million years old. The Digne thermal baths draw on a 50°C hot spring with recognised therapeutic properties for rheumatic and respiratory conditions. The Gassendi Museum, named after the famous philosopher and astronomer born in Digne, combines contemporary art and natural sciences in an original journey. The trip from Nice ascends the spectacular Var valley, one of the region's longest rivers, offering a journey through the Southern Alps from Mediterranean olive groves to Haute-Provence lavender fields.
