Taxi Nice — Carros

Carros is a fascinating perched village situated above the confluence of the Var and Estéron rivers, offering an exceptional panoramic view over the Var valley, the Grasse Pre-Alps and the snow-capped peaks of the Mercantour in the background. The village is divided into two distinct entities: Carros-le-Vieux, the medieval village clinging to its rocky pinnacle, and Carros-le-Neuf, the modern zone on the Var plain. It is the old village that draws visitors, with its maze of cobbled lanes, covered passages and golden stone houses. The Carros Castle, a 13th-century fortress remodelled during the Renaissance, has been converted into the International Centre for Contemporary Art (CIAC), an ambitious exhibition space hosting internationally renowned artists in a striking medieval setting. The contrast between the ancient stone walls and modern art installations creates a unique cultural experience. From the village summit, the 360-degree view encompasses the Var plain, the Baou de Saint-Jeannet, the perched villages of Gattières and Le Broc, and on clear days, the Mediterranean Sea to the south. Carros retains an authentic village atmosphere, less touristy than Saint-Paul-de-Vence but equally charming, with its artisans, centuries-old olive trees and Provençal tranquillity.
