Beaulieu-sur-Mer is a refined seaside resort on the French Riviera, sheltered from the winds by an amphitheatre of hills that gives it an exceptionally mild microclimate, the warmest on the Côte d'Azur. Its name, meaning 'beautiful place', perfectly sums up its charm. Beaulieu's jewel is the Villa Kérylos, built between 1902 and 1908 by archaeologist Théodore Reinach on the Pointe des Fourmis. This faithful recreation of a luxurious 2nd-century BC ancient Greek mansion is unique in the world: mosaics, frescoes, furniture and thermal baths reproduce the daily life of a wealthy Athenian. The Baie des Fourmis, a small sheltered sandy cove, is one of the most pleasant beaches on the Riviera. Beaulieu retains superb Belle Époque hotels, including La Réserve, a legendary palace founded in 1880.
Route
Route Nice → Beaulieu-sur-Mer
From Nice, the Basse Corniche (M6098) is the most pleasant route. After Mont-Boron and Villefranche-sur-Mer, the road follows the harbour then descends towards Beaulieu via the Cap de Nice. Villa Kérylos is on Impasse Gustave-Eiffel, on the Pointe des Fourmis, 2 minutes from the town centre. The driver drops you at the villa entrance or on Boulevard Maréchal-Leclerc facing the bay. Via the A8 motorway, take exit 58 (Beaulieu) and descend via the D6007 in 3 minutes. This route is faster but less scenic.
