Lons-le-Saunier to Bourg-en-Bresse is a natural link between two exceptional gastronomic terroirs. Lons-le-Saunier, the Jura capital nestled in the Revermont valley, is a spa town and the birthplace of La Marseillaise composer Rouget de Lisle and La Vache qui rit cheese brand (1921). The Revermont ridge is covered with terraced vineyards growing the Jura's unique Savagnin and Trousseau grape varieties. The route descends to the Bresse plain, a green bocage landscape of ponds and half-timbered farms where Bresse chicken, the world's only AOC poultry, roams free. Bourg-en-Bresse houses the Brou Monastery, a flamboyant Gothic masterpiece built by Margaret of Austria.
