Saint-Brieuc is the prefecture of Cotes-d'Armor, a dynamic city perched on a plateau overlooking a vast bay. The Bay of Saint-Brieuc, a National Nature Reserve, is one of Brittany's largest bays with 800 hectares of foreshore exposed at low tide — a paradise for migratory birds, with over 40,000 waders stopping each year on the Arctic route. The city preserves a rich medieval heritage including Saint-Etienne Cathedral, a fortified Gothic structure from the 13th-14th centuries with two massive towers giving it a unique martial appearance.
