Conflans-Sainte-Honorine is a town of 36,000 in the Yvelines, world-known as the capital of French inland waterway navigation. Strategically located at the confluence of the Seine and Oise rivers, it has harboured a freshwater barge community for centuries. The Quai de la République permanently hosts around a hundred moored barges, including the 'Je Sers', a former tugboat converted into a floating chapel — unique in France — where bargemen's baptisms and weddings are celebrated. The Inland Waterway Museum, housed in the Château du Prieuré overlooking the confluence, traces French inland navigation history through models, tools and exceptional documents. Every June, the Grand Pardon national de la Batellerie gathers dozens of decorated barges for a spectacular river blessing drawing 50,000 visitors. The Tour Montjoie, remains of an 11th-century castle perched on a hill, offers remarkable views over the confluence and the Oise valley.
