Taxi Paris → Barbizon

Barbizon is a single-street village of barely 1,500 inhabitants on the western edge of Fontainebleau forest in the Seine-et-Marne department. In the mid-19th century, landscape painters seeking nature settled in this rural hamlet to paint en plein air, founding what would become the Barbizon school. Théodore Rousseau, Jean-François Millet, Narcisse Diaz de la Peña, Charles-François Daubigny and Camille Corot frequented the Auberge Ganne, now a departmental museum. Millet painted 'The Angelus' and 'The Gleaners' here, icons of French art. The Grande Rue retains its art galleries, studios and historic inns, offering a unique cultural walk. Rousseau's studio and Millet's house-studio are open to the public. Nearby, Fontainebleau forest offers 25,000 hectares of preserved nature with its rocky chaos, gorges and legendary trails beloved by hikers and climbers worldwide. A taxi is the most direct way to reach Barbizon from Paris, as the village is poorly served by public transport.
