In France, major cities have a fleet of accessible taxis, but their number remains insufficient.
Rights of people with disabilities
A taxi driver cannot refuse a person with a disability. The law of 11 February 2005 guarantees transport accessibility for people with disabilities. The driver must help the passenger board and alight from the vehicle and load the wheelchair or mobility aids. No surcharge may be applied on account of the disability.
Approved medical taxis for people with disabilities
Holders of a mobility inclusion card (CMI) or those recognised as disabled can benefit from approved taxi transport covered by the CPAM. The reimbursement rate is 65% (or 100% for long-term conditions, recognised disability or co-payment exemption). A medical transport prescription is required for each medical journey.
