Saint-Tropez and Cannes are the two brightest stars in the Riviera constellation, twin temples of luxury, glamour and Mediterranean art de vivre. Saint-Tropez offers the golden freedom of a peninsula where time seems to stand still between the plane-tree-shaded terraces of the place des Lices, the cobbled lanes of the old village lined with competing art galleries, and the mythical Pampelonne beaches where Nikki Beach and Club 55 draw the international jet-set. Cannes dazzles with the sparkle of the Croisette, the Palais des Festivals red carpet, the legendary Carlton and Martinez palace hotels, and a rich cultural life spanning the medieval Suquet quarter and the Lerins Islands. The taxi ride between these two luxury capitals crosses the wild heart of the Maures massif, a preserved Mediterranean forest of cork oaks, maritime pines and chestnut trees. The road climbs from the Gulf of Saint-Tropez through the vineyards of Gassin and Ramatuelle, perched villages with dizzying panoramas, before descending to the Argens valley and joining the A8 motorway at Le Muy.
Route
Route Saint-Tropez → Cannes
From Saint-Tropez, the route takes the D98A to La Foux, then heads north on the D558 and D25 mountain road through the Maures massif. The route passes through Cogolin, known for its artisanal carpet and briar-pipe workshops, then climbs through dense pine and cork-oak forest. At La Garde-Freinet, perched at 450 metres, the road offers a last spectacular look back at the Gulf of Saint-Tropez far below. The descent northward passes through Les Arcs-sur-Argens and joins the A8 motorway at Le Muy. The motorway heads east past Frejus along the red-rock Esterel massif before exit 42 Cannes-Mougins leads directly to the town centre and the Croisette. The coastal alternative via Sainte-Maxime, Frejus and Saint-Raphael is scenic but adds 30-45 minutes, more in summer.

Specific tips for the Saint-Tropez → Cannes route
The key to a smooth departure from Saint-Tropez is timing. In July and August, the D98A between the village and La Foux is a notorious traffic nightmare with endless queues under the Mediterranean sun. Our drivers firmly recommend departing before 8:30am or after 7pm. Once on the D25 in the Maures massif, traffic flows freely regardless of season. During the Cannes Film Festival in mid-May, traffic around the Palais des Festivals is disrupted but our drivers know secondary access routes to drop you close to the Croisette. If catching a flight from Nice Airport, the taxi can continue directly from Cannes in an additional 30 minutes. Before leaving Saint-Tropez, try the famous tarte tropezienne at Senequier — this cream-filled brioche is the peninsula's signature treat.
