Cannes is synonymous with glamour, cinema and major international events. The Cannes Film Festival in May transforms the Croisette into the world's red carpet, MIPIM in March brings together global real estate, MIPCOM in October gathers the audiovisual industry, and the Cannes Lions festival attracts creatives from around the globe. But Cannes is much more than a festival city: it is also a prestigious seaside resort with fine sandy beaches, its old port overlooked by Le Suquet (the old town), and the Lérins Islands accessible by boat (Sainte-Marguerite Island with the Man in the Iron Mask fort, Saint-Honorat Island with its wine-producing monastery). The Palais des Festivals, the Carlton, the Martinez and the Majestic are legendary Riviera addresses. From Marseille, taxis are particularly popular during congress periods as Cannes hotels are mobbed and many delegates stay in Marseille or Aix-en-Provence. A taxi is also ideal for transfers from Marseille Provence Airport when direct flights to Nice are fully booked or too expensive.
Route
Route Marseille → Cannes
Your driver leaves Marseille via the A7 towards Aix-en-Provence, then joins the A8 towards Nice at the Trois Pigeons interchange. The motorway crosses the Provençal plateau between vineyards and garrigue, passes Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume and Brignoles, then Le Luc en Provence. After Le Muy, you enter the Esterel massif: red porphyry rocks sculpted by erosion create a lunar and grandiose landscape. The motorway overlooks the sea with spectacular views between Fréjus and Théoule-sur-Mer. The Cannes-Mougins exit (exit 42) leads to the expressway towards central Cannes, the Palais des Festivals and the Croisette. Tolls amount to approximately €18. Under normal conditions, the journey takes 2 hours. During the Cannes Film Festival (two weeks in May), the approaches to the city are very congested — allow 15-20 extra minutes for the last kilometre to the Croisette.

Specific tips for the Marseille → Cannes route
If heading to Cannes for a congress (MIPIM, MIPCOM, Cannes Lions, Film Festival), book your taxi at least 48h in advance: demand is extremely high during these events. For the Film Festival in May, only accredited guests can access the Palais des Festivals — ask your driver to drop you on Boulevard de la Croisette or at the Palais car park. Returns after the red carpet (around 10-11pm) require advance booking as taxis are swamped. For beaches, the public Croisette beaches are free and alternate with private hotel beaches (expect €30-50 per sun lounger). For luxury shopping, Rue d'Antibes is brand paradise, running parallel to the Croisette. If time permits, a trip to the Lérins Islands (boat from the old port, 15 min) is absolutely worthwhile — the Man in the Iron Mask fort is fascinating.
