The motorway passes through Bordighera, San Remo — famous for its Italian song festival — Imperia and Savona. At Genoa, the route bypasses the city to the north and joins the A7 (Autostrada dei Giovi) which crosses the Ligurian Apennines. The descent to the Po Valley is swift through Tortona and Voghera to Milan's outskirts. Entry into Milan is via the Tangenziale Ovest or the urban motorway serving the city's various districts.
