Taxi Cassis → La Ciotat

This short 12 km ride between Cassis and La Ciotat packs some of the most dramatic coastal scenery in Provence. Cassis is famous for its turquoise calanques (Port-Miou, Port-Pin, En-Vau) within the Calanques National Park, and its AOC white wine — dry, mineral, cultivated on terraces facing the sea. Between the two towns rises Cap Canaille, whose Soubeyran cliffs soar to 394 metres — France's highest maritime cliffs. The Route des Crêtes (D141) winds along these cliff tops with vertigo-inducing views. La Ciotat entered universal history as the birthplace of cinema: the Lumière brothers filmed their first moving images here in 1895, including the famous "Arrival of a Train." The town still has the Eden Theatre, considered the world's oldest still-operating cinema, along with a lively old port and the Mugel calanque botanical garden.
