Vallauris is a historic ceramics city, forever transformed by Pablo Picasso's stay between 1948 and 1955. The artist created hundreds of ceramics at the Madoura workshop, revolutionising the art of pottery. The Picasso National Museum 'War and Peace', housed in the castle's Romanesque chapel, holds the immense fresco Picasso considered his masterpiece. Place Paul-Isnard features 'Man with a Sheep', a bronze sculpture Picasso gave to the town. Beyond Picasso, Vallauris remains a craftsmen's town with over 100 pottery and ceramic workshops. The neighbouring village of Biot, 3 km away, is renowned for its art glasswork and the Fernand Léger museum.
