Théoule-sur-Mer is a small seaside resort nestled at the foot of the Estérel massif, where the spectacular red porphyry rocks plunge into the turquoise Mediterranean. It is the starting point of the Corniche d'Or, one of Europe's most beautiful coastal roads, winding 30 km between Théoule and Saint-Raphaël with breathtaking views of blood-red calanques and crystal-clear waters. The Estérel massif, with its 32,000 hectares of forest and peaks culminating at Mont Vinaigre (618 m), offers a striking contrast with the coast: the red volcanic rocks, 250 million years old, create a landscape unique in the Mediterranean. Théoule has several small sheltered sandy beaches, an intimate marina and the Château de Théoule, a former 18th-century soap factory converted into an events venue. Far from the bustle of nearby Cannes, Théoule is a sought-after haven of peace.
Route
Route Nice → Théoule-sur-Mer
From Nice, take the A8 motorway towards Cannes. Exit 40 'La Napoule / Théoule-sur-Mer'. Then follow the D6098 towards Théoule-sur-Mer (5 km from the exit). The road runs along the seafront, passing the port of la Napoule before reaching Théoule. To enjoy the Corniche d'Or (D6098), continue beyond Théoule towards Le Trayas and Agay: this is the most spectacular section. The driver can suggest an outbound trip via the motorway (fast) and a return via the Corniche d'Or (scenic), for the best of both worlds. Allow an extra 30 minutes for the Corniche.
Main route: A8 sortie 40 puis D6098 (Corniche d'Or) — ~4 € par A8 (ou aucun par la côte)

Specific tips for the Nice → Théoule-sur-Mer route
The Corniche d'Or is a must: ask the driver to take it at least one way. The finest viewpoints are at Le Trayas and the Pointe de l'Aiguille. The calanques of Théoule (Calanque de l'Aiguille, Calanque du Petit Caneiret) are accessible via short trails from the road: bring swimwear and a towel. La Figueirette beach, a small sandy cove between the red rocks, is a gem. In summer, traffic on the D6098 can be heavy at weekends: a weekday trip or early morning departure is preferable. Hikes in the Estérel start from the Col de Théoule or the Gratadis car park.
