From Nice, take the A8 motorway towards Italy. Two options are available: the fastest goes through the Italian side at Ventimiglia then up the Roya valley via the D6204 on the French side. The alternative passes through Sospel via the Col de Braus (D2566) then descends to Breil via the D6204 — a more mountainous and spectacular journey but 15 minutes longer. Via the Roya valley from Ventimiglia, the road follows the gorges alongside the torrent, with tunnels carved into the rock and impressive views of limestone cliffs. You'll pass through several hamlets and the village of Fontan before arriving in Breil.
