Taxi Marseille → Cassis
Your Marseille → Cassis transfer at a fixed price of €45–€55. Online booking, professional driver 24/7.
A taxi between Marseille and Cassis costs between €45 and €55 when booked in advance at a fixed price, over a road distance of about 23 kilometres and a journey time of from 25 to 45 minutes depending on traffic. The usual route takes A50 or D559 (route côtière), with no tolls. A van for up to seven passengers starts at €75. That price includes luggage, tolls and the driver's approach, and it does not move if traffic builds up: that is the difference with a metered ride, where every minute of waiting is charged and the applicable rate depends on the hour. On an unbooked ride, the amount follows the scale of the prefectoral order applying where the passenger is picked up, higher from seven in the evening to ten in the morning as well as on Sundays and public holidays. The driver tracks the flight or train number given at booking and shifts the pick-up at no extra cost if it is delayed, and cancelling remains free up to six hours before departure.

Cassis, a small fishing port sheltered between the cliffs of Cap Canaille — France's highest sea cliffs at 394 metres of vertiginous walls plunging into the Mediterranean — and the Calanques National Park, is one of the most sought-after destinations on the Provencal coast. This village of 7,500 inhabitants charms visitors with its miniature harbour lined with colourful restaurant terraces, its Provencal lanes scented with jasmine and bougainvillea, and above all access to the calanques of Port-Miou, Port-Pin and En-Vau, considered among the Mediterranean's most beautiful coves. Cassis is also renowned for its vineyard, one of France's oldest, producing a dry, mineral white wine ideal with bouillabaisse and sea urchins. From Marseille, a taxi is the most practical way to reach Cassis, especially in summer when the access road is congested and parking virtually impossible. Excursion boats depart from the port for calanques trips, but arriving by taxi spares you the long winding descent from the D559. As Frederic Mistral said: 'He who has seen Paris but not Cassis has seen nothing.'
Route
Route Marseille → Cassis
Two routes are available from Marseille. The fastest takes the A50 towards Toulon: after Aubagne, the Cassis exit leads to the D559 then the winding descent to the village (5 km of hairpin bends). The most spectacular follows the Corniche du President-Kennedy, skirts Marseille's calanques (Callelongue, Marseilleveyre) then climbs the Route des Cretes (D141) between La Ciotat and Cassis: from there, the view over Cap Canaille, Cassis bay and the Frioul islands is breathtaking. This second route is longer (45 min) but is a tourist excursion in itself. Your driver can drop you directly at the port (brief stop), at the Gorguettes car park at the top of the village, or at your accommodation. In summer, village access is restricted from 9am to 7pm: only residents and authorised vehicles (including taxis) may drive down, making a taxi even more relevant.

Specific tips for the Marseille → Cassis route
In summer (July-August), private car access to Cassis is banned from 9am to 7pm: the shuttle from the Gorguettes car park is then mandatory. By taxi, you get direct village access — one of the great advantages of taxi transport. For the calanques, boats leave the port every 30 minutes in high season (3, 5 or 8 calanques, duration 45 min to 2h). The hike to En-Vau calanque (2h one way from Gardiole car park) is stunning but challenging — bring water and proper shoes. The Cassis vineyard deserves a tasting: Clos Sainte-Magdeleine, set beneath Cap Canaille, offers extraordinary views. For lunch, port-side restaurants are touristy; try the centre's lanes instead (Chez Gilbert for bouillabaisse, La Villa Madie for Michelin-starred cuisine). Cap Canaille can be visited by car via the Route des Cretes — ask your driver, it is a spectacular 15-minute detour.

Detailed comparison of transport options
The Zou! M08 bus from Castellane (Marseille) costs 2 euros and takes about 45 minutes, but serves Cassis village at the top, 15 minutes' walk from the port. By car, expect 5 euros in fuel, no tolls, but parking is 6 euros per day at Gorguettes and access is banned in summer. The train does not serve Cassis directly (nearest station: La Ciotat, 12 km away). The TaxiNeo taxi at 45 to 55 euros drops you at the port and picks you up whenever you wish. For 3-4 passengers (11 to 18 euros per person), it is unbeatable compared to bus plus walking, and crucially it is the only way to access the village in summer without the shuttle.
