Biscarrosse is a unique destination in the Landes offering three distinct faces: Biscarrosse-Ville, the historic heart with its Landes houses and lively market; Biscarrosse-Lac (or Biscarrosse-Parentis), on the shore of the great Cazaux-Sanguinet lake (5,600 hectares, France's second-largest natural lake), a paradise for swimmers, windsurfers and anglers; and Biscarrosse-Plage, an ocean resort with its immense fine-sand beaches pounded by Atlantic waves. This triple identity makes Biscarrosse a complete destination where everyone finds their pleasure. The town possesses remarkable aviation heritage: the Seaplane Museum, housed in a former Latécoère hangar on the shores of Lake Parentis, tells the story of seaplanes and the Aéropostale. From 1930 to 1955, Biscarrosse lake served as a landing base for transatlantic seaplanes of the Latécoère company and then Air France. Giants of the air like the Latécoère 631 took off from here for New York or Dakar. The International Seaplane Rally (biennial, May) perpetuates this tradition by attracting seaplanes from around the world. The pine forest surrounding the lakes and coastline offers hundreds of kilometres of cycle paths, perfect for discovering this territory between fresh water, salt water and woodland.
