Taxi Redon → Rennes

The Redon to Rennes journey links the river town of southern Ille-et-Vilaine to the regional capital of Brittany, following the Vilaine valley, a river that has shaped the landscapes and history of eastern Brittany. Redon, a town of character at the confluence of the Vilaine and the Oust, is an exceptional river crossroads where the Nantes-to-Brest canal meets the navigable Vilaine. Redon's port, once one of the most active in inland Brittany for trading salt, timber and grain, retains its granite quays and warehouses converted into cultural spaces. The Saint-Sauveur Abbey, founded in the 9th century with a Romanesque bell tower featuring four corner turrets unique in Brittany, overlooks the historic heart of the town with its half-timbered houses and medieval lanes. Redon is also an important railway junction: its station, at the crossing of the Rennes-Quimper and Nantes-Brest lines, receives TER services from all four directions. The Nantes-to-Brest canal, a 19th-century engineering masterpiece, runs through the town and offers popular cycling and barge cruising in summer. Rennes, the destination, is a thriving metropolis of 450,000 with exceptional cultural life and an efficient public transport network including its automated metro.
