Taxi Millau → Clermont-Ferrand

The Millau to Clermont-Ferrand taxi journey follows the entire A75 Meridienne, France's only toll-free motorway, through the most spectacular landscapes of the Massif Central. It begins with the crossing of the Millau Viaduct, the world's tallest road bridge designed by Norman Foster, surrounded by the UNESCO-listed Grands Causses. The route passes near the Roquefort caves where the famous cheese ages in natural limestone fissures, and the Gorges du Tarn, a 500-metre-deep canyon of extraordinary beauty. Climbing through the Margeride and Aubrac highlands, where herds of the distinctive Aubrac cattle graze on windswept plateaux at over 1,100 metres, the road reaches Saint-Flour, a medieval episcopal city perched on a volcanic basalt spur. The descent toward Clermont-Ferrand reveals the Auvergne volcanoes in all their majesty: the Cantal massif, Europe's largest stratovolcano, the Sancy at 1,886 metres, and the UNESCO-listed Chaine des Puys, an alignment of 80 dormant volcanoes crowned by the Puy de Dome. Clermont-Ferrand, built from black Volvic lava stone, is home to Michelin and a uniquely dark Gothic cathedral.
