Les Deux Alpes is one of the most dynamic ski resorts in the French Alps, world-famous for its Mont-de-Lans glacier reaching 3,600 metres, which allows skiing and snowboarding year-round — including in the height of summer. The resort, spread along a ridge between 1,300 and 3,600 metres, offers 225 km of runs and one of Europe's largest snowparks, attracting freestylers from around the world. The area is particularly popular with young people and freestyle enthusiasts thanks to its Olympic half-pipe, tables and rails. In summer, the glacier stays open for skiing and snowboarding while the lower resort becomes an internationally renowned downhill mountain biking spot with the Mountain of Hell, one of the world's most extreme MTB races. Les Deux Alpes is also a gateway to hikes in the Écrins National Park, one of the natural jewels of the French Alps. Taxis from Grenoble are favoured by families, groups of friends and international tourists arriving at Lyon airport or Grenoble station.

Specific tips for the Grenoble → Les Deux Alpes route
The Les Deux Alpes glacier is open for skiing from June to August — a unique experience of skiing in a t-shirt with Écrins views. In winter, the resort is very lively with many bars and restaurants — the après-ski is famously festive. A day ski pass costs about €52 in high season. The Ice Cave at 3,400 m is a unique attraction: a tunnel carved into the glacier with ice sculptures, accessible via the Jandri Express cable car. For non-skiers, the heated indoor pool and sports complex offer alternative activities. The Écrins National Park, accessible from the resort, offers exceptional summer hikes (Lac du Lauvitel, Muzelle). Remember to book your return taxi in advance, especially on school-holiday Saturdays.
