Parc Astérix is a French theme park opened in 1989, inspired by the Asterix comic books by Uderzo and Goscinny. Located in Plailly, on the edge of the Ermenonville forest in the Oise department, it has established itself as France's second most visited theme park after Disneyland Paris. The park is distinguished by the quality of its roller coasters, among the best in Europe: Toutatis, a launch coaster reaching 110 km/h with four inversions, OzIris, a smooth B&M inverted coaster, and Goudurix, a 1980s classic with seven loops. The universe is divided into six themed worlds: Gaul, the Roman Empire, Ancient Greece, the Vikings, Through Time and Egypt. Beyond thrills, the park offers a dolphin show at the Theatre of Poseidon, live performances with stunt artists and gladiators, and areas for younger children such as the Little Train and Idefix Forest. Parc Astérix has invested heavily in themed hotels: les Quais de Lutèce, la Cité Suspendue and l'Hôtel des Trois Hiboux let visitors extend their experience over two days. Getting to Parc Astérix by taxi from Paris is far more practical than the official shuttle from the Louvre, which has rigid schedules and a long journey due to multiple stops.
