About these fares

On Sundays and public holidays, taxi fares are higher in France. In Paris, rate D applies all day Sunday, from midnight to midnight, representing the highest rate on the schedule. In the provinces, a variable surcharge of 15 to 50% may apply depending on local prefectural orders. France has 11 official public holidays: 1 January, Easter Monday, 1 May, 8 May, Ascension, Whit Monday, 14 July, 15 August, 1 November, 11 November and 25 December. New Year's Eve (night of 31 December) combines the night rate and public holiday rate. Airport flat rates remain the same on Sundays.

Tips to save money

To avoid the Sunday surcharge, book a fixed price on TaxiNeo: our rates do not change on Sundays or public holidays. If you take a metered taxi, airport flat rates (CDG 56/65 euros, Orly 35/41 euros) are not surcharged, even on Sundays. Bastille Day (14 July) and New Year's Eve are the most expensive and busiest days: book well in advance. 1 May is the only holiday where certain surcharges are legally at their highest. Long weekends (bank holiday bridges) also cause high demand. Early Sunday morning (before 7am) combines both the night rate and Sunday rate.

Good to know

The Sunday rate is automatically activated by the meter. The driver does not set the rate manually. France's 11 public holidays are treated the same as Sundays for taxi fares. Card payment is mandatory every day. If in doubt about the rate applied, the rooftop light and meter display show the rate letter (A, B, C or D). Fewer taxis operate on public holidays, so expect longer waiting times.
