About these fares
French regulations allow taxis to charge a luggage surcharge, but it is strictly regulated. The first three bags (standard size, such as cabin or checked luggage) are free and must be carried at no charge. From the fourth bag onwards, a maximum supplement of 2 euros per additional bag may apply. Folded pushchairs are treated as standard luggage and are therefore free. Bulky sports equipment such as skis, bicycles or surfboards may incur a surcharge if the driver agrees to transport them. The driver may refuse luggage that does not fit in the boot. With TaxiNeo, no luggage surcharge is ever charged.
Tips to save money
To avoid luggage fees in a taxi, limit yourself to three suitcases per ride or book on TaxiNeo where all luggage is included. If travelling with skis or a folding bicycle, mention it when booking so the driver can prepare a suitable vehicle (estate or minivan). For light moves, a taxi is not suitable: prefer a van hire. Folded pushchairs do not count as extra luggage. If you have more than 4 large suitcases, request a van-type vehicle when booking with TaxiNeo. Backpacks and small handbags are never counted.
Good to know
The luggage surcharge must appear on the detailed receipt. If a driver charges for the first 3 bags, it is illegal: note their licence number. Airport flat rates include luggage with no surcharge. Animals in carriers are not classed as luggage and fall under separate regulations. In case of damage to luggage, the driver's professional liability insurance applies.
